Article 5, Democracy

In Chile, democracy is inclusive and assures equality. It is exercised directly, it is participative, communal, and representative.

It is the duty of the State to foster and guarantee the adoption of measures towards the effective participation of society as a whole in the political process and the full exercise of democracy.

The State shall ensure general interest prevails, and the elective nature of the positions of a responsible political representation of those exercising power.

Organized political activity contributes to the expression of popular will, and its operation shall observe the principles of independence, integrity, financial transparency, and internal democracy.
